It has truly been a unique and great experience working with students in the special needs program. There are many pleasing experiences that I have encountered during my placement in their friendly and inviting classroom. The most satisfying experience, without hesitation I could say was getting the chance to interact with students that are in the GLP program and learning new skills that helped me work with each student correctly. Peer tutoring for this wonderful class made me think about different career ideas that I would most definitely enjoy and gain fundamental knowledge from.
There has been many unforgettable and humorous moments which I will always remember; in fact today while we went outside to play Frisbee, I was teamed up with the student I usually work with and I was trying to teach him how to throw a Frisbee. I was having a very difficult time because he did not want to listen and kept saying negative things about himself and the game, so as I was trying to motivate him by saying that the game was not difficult at all, I decided to show him how to throw and I totally messed up and fell on the wet grass which made him laugh and feel like it was okay to make mistakes and what is important is trying different activities even if they seem difficult . After that, he continued trying but this time he was not stressed when he miss threw the Frisbee and was more comfortable with himself and his strengths and weaknesses.Overall in GLP gym class students are very nice to each other and they try to have fun and make everyone feel included, even if some activities are more difficult for some students than others. Since this gym class is mixed, the boys try to play with girls as much as other boys so that everyone has a good time and feels that they could be as involved as anyone else in the class.
