Malaz: Supplemental Task 3

Students paying attention to Mrs. Holness's lesson on Pythagorean theorem. Exciting much?!

Student is called up to slove and explain a problem? No
pressure!

Moving a group of talkative students, Victims? or Offenders?

Offenders of course! Move to new spots quietly! :)

It's math class, not geography. Pay attention!

Mrs.Holness's unique way of teaching The Pythagorean Theorem, very effective!

Having fun in math! Technically, it is still math related since there is a bracket and an equal sign (:

Supplementary Task II

One website I find helpful for Peer Tutoring Info is a university's page on peer tutoring tips found here.

Though this page is aimed at university students working one-on-one with other university students, I think many of tips are useful for peer tutors and that many of the same base principles apply for all peer tutors.

I like this page more than others and find it more useful because it uses a step-by-step approach. For example, it aims first to 'establish environment' and then second to 'build rapport' between tutor and tutee... and then continues through the steps to help build a positive relationship between tutor and tutee.

I think the information on the site is especially useful for when I am helping a student one-on-one with their work more than it is when I am working with bigger groups. For example, it gives useful advice such as bouncing questions back at the tutee and to ask effective questions which are carefully planned.

This page is a great place to start when peer tutoring to get simple ideas on how to be an effective and helpful peer tutor when working one-on-one.

Step4:Supplementary Task II- Souna Arami

After researching for quite a while, I found this fantastic website which offers relevant and useful information about strategies and helpful information for efficient peer tutoring. The link to this website is:

http://istudy.psu.edu/FirstYearModules/PeerTutoring/PeerTutorInfo.htm

This website provide excellent information which any person who is interested in peer tutoring would find very useful and would be able to learn countless skills that many people may never even think could make a difference in their work . For example simple eye contact or making a general conversation can make the students feel confortable. This site also provides information that one might need when they are working with a student one on one .Some of the matters that are discussed in this website consist of; often asked questions and answers, how to feel relaxed before making a presentation for the class, how to make students feel comfortable with you, asking effective questions, knowing the correct method to answer different questions and much
more!

Supplementary Task I

In the months that I have been a peer tutor, I had the most positive relationships with my host teacher. Ms. Ritter presents the fact that I am dependable in class without her. All substitutes comment such as “I heard you are a fantastic peer tutor for this class.” Her feedback encourages me to aid the students as a confident peer tutor.

I had Ms. Ritter for my first ESL program couple years ago. We now have a different relationship due to my peer tutoring course. She is concerned about the students’ position since anything can be too personal or sensitive issue in ELD class. Consequently, I have a better understanding of different perspectives. We always discuss what would be the best for the students and how we can improve situation for their future in Canada. She is insightful at managing various ethics; it is the best virtue for an ESL/ELD teacher. I am learning to be more liberal as a leader, and I thank her for having me in the class.

Jessica Du: Primary Task

My experience as a peer tutor for Mr. Easey’s sheltered careers class was great. It was a new and different experience for me. Having to be able to see and somewhat experience the life of being a teacher and helping/teaching a student something new every day was a great feeling to have and carry around. There were many tasks that I had and many roles that I played in the classroom. The most satisfying experience that I had as a peer tutor was, been given the chance to be able to teach and run the class when the teacher was absent, and the feeling of success it gave me. I had a chance to be in the teacher’s shoes and experience the life of being a teacher. Standing in front of the classroom and being able to teach the students, having them to be able to look up to me as a person they can come to for help gave me a feeling of success and happiness that I can help them, and teach them something they did not know.
In a classroom full of students, a great deal of stress can build up, especially if English is not the student’s first language. It gets difficult to communicate with one another which can make it hard when the teacher and/or students are trying to communicate or work together. A situation when humour was used as an appropriate way of reducing stress in the classroom was when Mr. Easey is teaching the class. Majority of the students speak English as their second language, so when Mr. Easey is teaching the class and trying to explain the lesson and assignments, sometimes the students do not understand. This builds stress and frustration. A way that Mr. Easey teaches the class is by telling jokes that relate to the lesson and using examples with funny stories and/or actions. This helps by getting the students full attention and letting them see what the teacher is saying in different ways with a little laugh and discussion with the class.

Supplementary Task I

In the months I have been a peer tutor, I think I have developed the most positive relationships with two of the students in my class. These two individuals are all very different in many ways, but they have all had a positive impact on me.
The first student is a very bright student but he sometimes lacks confidence and claims to not enjoy French class. I think he is a really positive influence on his peers because he does his works and tries his best to understand the lessons. Though I am not sure why he lacks confidence in his French skills, I always try to help him out (even though sometimes he knows the answers faster than I do....). To boost his confidence, I remind him that he can help others because his understanding is very good. This student has had a positive impact on me in that he makes me realise why I enjoy helping other so much. He is nice, funny and always shows appreciation. He makes me want to work my hardest. I think I have had a positive impact on this student by boosting his confidence levels and encouraging him to get involved in an out-of-class event, the 24 hour wake.
The second student is a hardworker who always gets me laughing. Though French doesn't seem to click for him as naturally as it does for some others, he likes to learn and always asked for my help. I tried to help him with organization and remembering to use the tools available to him such as dictionaries or notes. This created a positive impact, because the student is sometimes able to answer his own questions using these tools instead of always asking for help. This student has had a positive impact on me because he was able to get me in a good mood every day, something which I have been tankful on a few mornings.
Once again, I think being a peer tutor is the best of both worlds: you get to teach and help others, but you also get to relate to your peers.

Geneva's Primary Task

The most satisfying experience is every day when the student says "thank you". This alone makes it all worthwhile and it's the entire reason why we are peer tutors. It's to help our peers. When I know I've helped the students with anything, it's satisfying to know I had a hand in their success. Because I've been with them since the beginning of the semester, I know their strengths and weaknesses so it's very nice to see them succeeding in the the things they had trouble with at the beginning.

As for humour, I've used this many times in the classroom to relieve stress however not many I can remember. Then yesterday, I was helping a student with reading a story in french, and when I explained certain words I made jokes about each one. This way, the student would hopefully remember what the words meant and relate them to a joke when it comes time for the exam or a test. By using humour in the classroom, the students take more out of what they're learning instead of reading out of a textbook everyday.

Malaz's Supplementary Task 1

In the months that I have been a peer tutor, I developed positive relationships with Mrs.Holness and all the students in the class. I noticed at the beginning of the year students were shy about approaching the teacher or myself for help about certain questions, but as the semester passed by students got more comfortable about asking for help. Students who seek for help usually obtain a better mark, these are also the students with whom I have developed better relationships with. This is because when they ask me for help with a question it allows me to have time to talk with them one on one, and find out what is their best method for learning, and problem solving. I think by asking questions they showed that they strive to learn more, and in the end acheive a higher mark, and that had a positive impact on me. I also think when I showed thorough knowledge about the class by answering all the questions the students have asked, I had a positive impact on them. Mrs. Holness has a great way of approaching students that are struggeling to get through the class with an acceptable grade, she knows how to reach a student without hurting his or her feelings and that had a great positive impact on me during the past few months.

Supplementary Task 1

Hello, with the time that i have been a peer tutor for Mrs.Newsome k-science class i have devleoped a great amount of respect with the students and espically my host teacher. This is the third time i have had Mrs.Newsome as a teacher but every year i was a student for her our level of respect and honesty have grown. Mrs.Newsome has been a termendous role model she has taught me a lot of things that i will never forget. I have developed a great amount of postive realationship with my host teacher and the students. The students have a lot of impact on me beacuse they truly helped me gain a lot of experence as well as made me a better person. They all have made me comfortable in there class room and also showed me a lot respect. The postive impact that i had on them was never to give up stand of for who you are. I always tell never hesitate to raise your hand because there is no one in the class that will bring you down.

Primary Task

I think the most satisfying experience I have had as a peer tutor, as cheesy as it might sound, has been developing relationships with the students in my class.
When I am sick or most class is away on a field trip, I miss seeing them, interacting and being able to help. I've loved getting to know the students' personalities in their schoolwork and in how they are in 'normal' life. I think I enjoyed this so much becaue, before taking peer tutoring, I didn't have much experience being a person of authority. As a peer tutor, I get to help, be a positive role-model and act 'teacher-ish', but I think it is also easier for the students to relate to me than it is for them to relate to the teacher. In this way, I think it is the best of both worlds a lot of the time. I've learned that I think being someone people look to for help or guidance is its own reward, especially when you get to laugh and get to know them too, as silly or superficial as that may sound.
For example: I felt really satisfied once when a student from my peer tutoring class came up to me in the hallway at lunch to ask for help. He didn't even want help for the class I peer tutored.... it was some other random class! I helped him for a while and it finally clicked. We were laughing and I really had a good time, and he really understood his lesson. I think it is little things like that that make people want to become teachers.
And I'm usually not one for the cheesy stuff! Most of the time when people say things like 'Helping others is its own reward' I think of some ridiculous motivational speaker. I never understand emotions or ideas like this when they are explained to me. It always takes my own personal experiences to convince me that sayings like that can be true, and I think peer tutoring has been one of those experiences.
I think being a peer tutor is really optimal because it allows you to get to know people on two levels: as a teacher, and as a friend.
Mme. Ducharme often tries to get the class laughing to keep everyone happier and she has definitely shown me that this can work when students are struggling or stressed. For example, one time, a student I was helping one-on-one was having a really tough time learning a verb tense. We had gone through many many verbs, and she told me it still had not 'clicked' and she was very stressed out for the quiz the next day. I figured she just needed a mental break, so we enlisted her friend to tell us a funny story about his weekend to calm her down. Five minutes later, with her brain refreshed and her heart happy, the verb tense finally clicked. Though some people work well under pressure, I think having your head relaxed and your heart happy really makes it easier to soak up information for many people..

Supplementary Task 1

In the months i have been a peer tutor for grade 10 applied history, i have developed very positive relationships. I developed these positive relationships from the activities i organize in the class. So even though i didn't know any of the students, fun activities allowed me to negociate with them and allow me to get comfortable. I have a close relationship with mostly everyone in the class because i have talked and explained at least one event/place/question to the students which helped me be comfortable asking them if they need help. Students in the class are very social so they have no problem talking to anyone about anything. Miss Coddette has been my basketball coach for 2 years so iv always had a really close relationship with her. Even when she left and the substitute teacher came in the class, our class made him feel at home. He is a really funny and entertaining person that uses jokes while he is teaching. This helps students understand more and allow them to participate during class discussions.

Supplementary Task II; Michelle Yan

Hey everyone! I have found this site that can be very helpful to peer tutors everywhere! Although, this website isn't directed to high school students, it can still be helpful because teachers and tutors have very similar strategies for effective teaching. In the website, they list some main strategies that a peer tutor should have. Yet, it isn't put into a tutor's perspective - but a teacher's perspective on training a tutor. In my point of a view, a teacher and a tutor are very similar in ways that they're still tutoring/teaching students how to do better. The website has a true description of a peer tutor as well as the roles they must master to become successful in their course towards their class/tutees. The descriptions are very detailed and in depth, so it might be easier for the readers to understand. This can influence my development of a peer tutor because it's like an outline for me to follow. If I ever feel that I'm getting side tracked, I can take a look at it and set myself back to the right track. It also gives me advice to become a better peer tutor to my tutees.

Supplementary Task I; Michelle Yan

Hey guys! Within the time that I have been apart of Ms. Carrier's grade 9 dance class, I have developed many different relationships with the students and host teacher. I feel that all the relationships that I have developed within the classroom are all positive. Having postive relationships within an environment has truly helped me grow as a peer-tutor. They have given me more confidence, self-esteem and the room to grow as a team leader. I'm glad that the students aren't afraid to approach me with their questions, comments and requests because they know that I'll always have an answer, or I'll definitely go out of my way to fullfil their requests. As a group of individuals, we're usually in a very uplifting and energetic environment. Without the positive relationships between each individual, it wouldn't be the same. We are able to have open discussions about pretty much anything and everything! I think it's great that everyone feels comfortable with each other in the classroom, otherwise we'd be a scattered bunch! I have honestly grown to love the grade 9 students as one big student body, they're an amazing group of girls and they're amazingly sweet!!! :) They have requested for me to come back next year as their peer-tutor, yet I don't think I'll have the opportunity again.

As for my host teacher, Ms. Carrier, she's an amazing role model. She has taught me a lot about dance, as well as being a teacher. It get's pretty hectic as a dance teacher, running around organizing shows, costumes, dancers and choreographing! She's definitely the one to look up to. She's helped me through a lot of the tough times and I adore her for that. She has a very positive influence on me, which makes me want to go beyond her expectations for me! Overall, our relationship goes very far, I could probably call her my friend, rather than my teacher. :)

Step3:Supplementary Task I -Souna Arami

During the past few months that I got the chance to peer-tutor the mixed (girls and boys) GLP gym class, I was able to interact with many students and get to know their habits and personalities much better. The individuals that I have developed the most positive relationships with , are the girls in the class since they feel like they are able to talk to me and ask me for help without being embarrassed since I’m about the same age as them so they feel very comfortable which makes me feel comfortable with them as well. I also developed a great relationship with the students that I worked with one on one. These students have taught me that you should be proud of who you are and never be afraid of what others might think of you if you do not do something correctly .Throughout the course I tried to keep students motivated and let them know that they are capable of doing anything they put their mind into, they just need to work hard and never give up.

Yad's Supplementary Task I

There is such a difference between being a student to a teacher, or being an assistant to a teacher. There is still a level of respect that must be given on both ends, however, coming back to Ms.Bech's class, there is a different relationship that has occurred.

Ms.Bech shows me how to properly do things such as vocabulary. I never knew there was a "correct" way to speak when pronouncing words, but now I do. She has shown me a teacher doesn't have to be dominant or submissive, but can be inbetween. You can have fun and humourous times with your students, but when it is time to be serious, they listen.

I believe I have shown another side to me aswell. I have shown I can be responsible and trustworthy with the children, and not act immature with them. I believe there is such a huge difference from being a student to an aid. You end up growing, sharing more personal stories or suggestions, etc. I get to talk to her about how I feel about the students, their strengths and weaknessess, their behaviours...

Overall, I think this is a great experience for everyone involved. You and your supervisor get to see another side of each other, usually for the better. I have positively been affected by this experience thanks to my host teacher and her teaching methods.

Mariam Step 3 Supplementary Task I

During the months that i have been a peer tutor in Mr.Hum's BTT20 class I have developed alot of positive relationships with many students, and the students also had a positive impact on me. The most student that i had a positive relationship with, she usually asked more questions than her other classmates. This student usually starts conversations and asks about me, my backround and some stuff non related to the classroom subject. She always takes my advice in assignments, and asks if shes doing work right. She feels more confortable having me beside her and watching her doing her work, and helping her correct the mistakes. By giving her positive comments in her work. Such as " You can do a great job " ,"WOW your work looks awsome" ," Good job ! " ,makes her more confortable working, eager to do more, and trying her best.
I'v seen her marks go up, and seeing her happy makes me happy !

Hello, I picked this website, because it explains what peer tutoring is and why its very important. It also briefly explains what peer tutors do, how they're chosen and their responsabilities. i find this website really usefull because when i read it makes me think back and what our purpose and how some of this im actually doing in Mr.Hum's class without purposly doing. Tutors should always give advices and to support the student. Making their work less stressful and easy going ( making it as simple as it could be ) Peer tutors should also have a solid understanding of what they're trying to teach the student. Theres also more things in the website that i find usefull while i was reading it.
HSope you guys got somthing out of it, like me. :p

Supplementary Task I

Hey,
Iam Nelly Yoske and currently peer tutoring grade 10 applied history class with Ms.Chambers.
In the months that i have been peer tutoring history class, i have developed different kinds of relationships with some individuls in the class and all of them had postive impact on me according to my experience.
One of these relationship is the one with the host teacher Ms. Chambers. She is a great teacher as i mentioned before in almot all my blogs; not only because she was my history teacher before but because of who she is and her personality. I think during this experience as a peer tutor, i got closer to her than last year when she was my teacher, and i think mainly thats because i didnt know why she does certain things and why not. last year as my teacher she just gives us work and we are always complaining which left us with no time to think why she might be doing that and that maybe its for our own goods. However, being a peer tutor, i learned alot of things, for instance all these assignement that we think its hard to do, its actually harder to come up with these assigment and put them in a simple way that the class can understand. And i also learn that the harder the assigment given are, the more "happy" you should be, because when a teacher gives you something hard, she or he actually have the faith in you that although yo complain you can't do it, you actually can. So you should be proud that someone has this great faith in you. so it was a great chose to take peer tutoring.
Also my relationships with the other students was great. It makes you think that there is a noimitatin to the saying "everything is possible" if you display the kind of attention expected. However, the students were great and the reason i this had impact on me is because i never thought i can actually teach. I have had some struggle of explaining things previous before this course but now i think as long as i know the subject i can clearly explain it and i learn all this about myself from the students i was peer tutoring.
Thanks to Ms. Chambers i became more considerate and understanding and thanks to the students in that class iam full of sefl-confidence and proud too.

Nelly Yoske

Step 2: Primary Task

Hey i'm Nelly,

i have been peer tutoring Ms.Chamber's grade 10 applied history class for a while now, and i really enjoy it. Everytime i go to that class i learn something new, eventhough i might know it already; whether its historical or social, its just new to me sometimes.
The most safisfying experience that i had as a peer tutor in that class will be weeks ago when Ms. chambers wasn't there and she left an assignment with the students, so i had to explain it to them. Eventhough there was a teacher, i had to explain to the class what was the assignment about and everything else. I chose this experience as safisfying because i felt like Ms.Chambers trusted me enought to leave such an assignement for me to explain it to the class and help them with it and since then i had this confidence that i can do it.
My class is really funny, everyone bring to the class their unique and different sense of humour. They are all funny in a way in my class, which reduces the stress of having alot of work. Ms. Chambers is like the master of humour and it seems like she is teaching the students a great sense of humour instead of history. It's really hilarious. for instance few weeks ago when the class was learning about the 1920s, and for course there is alot of stuff about that era and the students find it a little bit hard to learn all these things; so Ms. Chambers instead one day when the students came to class, she had them learn the Charleston and dance in class. This activity actually helped some students decrease their stress. so it was really funny to see the whole class dancing and if you are in the hallway passing by the class, you would wonder what class that is.
so iam stilll enjoying the experience of being a peer tutor and also enjoying the company of both Ms. chambers and the students.

Malaz; Supplementary Task 2

Hey!

Well I think I found this great site, that first explains why peer tutoring is very important in some courses and how becoming a peer tutor is a great skill to learn. Then it starts going into the different methods a peer tutor can use to excel at what he/she is doing. This site focuses on how simple things such as, teaching an exchange student how to save a picture off the internet, can make a big change and how that itself (teaching a person how to do something) is a great skill to learn. This site has some videos about each of the cases presented that show how a peer tutor should interact with the student he or she has been asigned to focus on. I found this site interesting because some of these "peer tutors" are young elementary mentors who are teaching people younger than them how to do something very simple such as take a picture with a camera, and this is why i chose it.

Step2: Primary Task

Wow ! Its almost over! Time passes by REALLY fast, specialy when your enjoying your time ;) I know I'm Enjoying my time in peer tutoring at Mr.Hum's BTT20 class. Its a delight to have his students to peer tutor, specially because they actually come in the class with smiles and are interested and eager to learn, by try their best to finish their assignments and to finish them right !

I really become happy when i see them fucosing and trying to find different creative ideas to keep their work really colourful and neat !. Also when i help them with their work, and they get a good mark for the effort they put into it, and the "thanks" i get when their done.
Hmmm, i could say that i became more confortable chatting more with the students and saying my "hello's" and "how was your weekend" and "Have a nice Day ! ", some students treat me like a friend, sister. I'm more than happy to feel trusted by some of the students, and seeing them out of school and they still give me this trust, and taking my advices in things.

The best thing in this class, is that we must have atleast 2 jokes in the class everyday. The class has acouple of funny students who crack up jokes here and there. So as Mr.Hum, hes realy funny and makes us laugh from time to time. Every individual makes the class a postive, motivated, and the right place for them and me to learn more in what we're working on.

- Mariam Dhaif

Summative:Primary Task

So here we are again with less then a month left of school. The semester is not even done yet and I'm already satisfied with all the work that has been done by students and how much students improved in their learning skills. Students in my applied history class started off not caring about the course, never doing homework, talking all they want, and just not focusing at all about the course. Then i look now and see everyone working hard on their assignments, 95 percent of the class getting homework done on a daily basis, and even better attendance. My most satisfying experience as a peer tutor is the way I encouraged and motivated students in the class on their classroom skills. Everyday I would have to talk to individuals and let them know the potential they had and what would happen if they did their homework everyday. Now i step into a class where every ones book open and prepared for any pop quiz or assignment that is due the next week. I am satisfied that my hard work of encouraging the kids has paid off and me not needing to talk to anyone for any bad reason.

Miss Codette has a huge sense of humour and is used mostly everyday when she was in class. If there was a question on a test and a student needed help she would use humour or a everyday situation to help solve the question. Like one time when Miss Codette asked a question and everyone sat there clueless and sleepy since it was first period. So she made a deal and said the person who answers this question correctly gets a pack of smarties. So everyone woke up and started to look all over their notes for the answer. After everyone looked deeply in their binder and tried their hardest to get the question, nine out of the 14 people got the answer right. Those nine people all waited for their 9am smarties box, until she said just kidding no smarties box for any of you cause bribing doesn't work in the class. After everyone was mad the next day she actually bought them smarties.

Primary Summative Task

I am peer tutoring Mrs.Newsome k-science class I have been through good times with them many great things happened in her class during the semester. Peer tutoring the k-science class it made me be more mature and a better person to my younger peers. I taught them many things even things i would never thought i could do. I developed a very good realationship with both my host teacher and the students. The most satisfying experience that I had as a peer tutor would be very difficult to chose but if i had to it would be helping each student one on one. I found out they learn way more if they have a one on one instructor the student stays one topic, and is learning way more. Helping the student one on one lets them feel more comfortable around me and it also make me feel like happy for there learning.

A situation when humour was used was the most hilarious thing that happened through out the semester. There was this one day that i was really tired and i had my head kind of low then this one student come up to me and says Farhia whats wrong did you break up with your boyfriend. He then says its ok dont cry i will make everyting better for you. The whole class started laughing at me including my host teacher i felt really embarassed but i delt with it without frustration and just laughed along with the class. Two weeks later i got him back he walked in through the door made after lunch and i said did you girlfriend just break up with you he laughed and said that's my joke. I am really happen that the students in class dont take jokes seriously and know when it is time for joke or when it is time to do work. It was a funny moment for me and the student that started it.

Supplemental Task III

Distraction during a test. Hard thinkers!

Putting back the desks before the bell rings, cannot be late for class, now!
Working on Mythology, but of course some talking about other things gets in the way! Wonder what's so funny?
Class together in groups to work on projects. Everyone on task for once!
Great, another test. Confusion and fatigue is hitting some of the students!

Supplementary Tast II

http://dept.dawsoncollege.qc.ca/lc/Peer%20Tutors.htm#5

I found this site, and I know it is not for high school peer tutors, however it has information that applies to anyone that is or will become a peer tutor. There is advice to be successful, lists of responsibilities, and helpful suggestions. Reading this, it makes sense to me and makes me think of things I could do better to improve the way I peer tutor. Sometimes, it's good to have something to follow that will lead us back onto the path we originally chose. This reinforces reasons why I chose to peer tutor. This site is easy to follow and gets the point straight across, thus why I chose it.

Step2 Primary Task -ISU

My peer tutoring class, ELDO DO, has been delightful throughout this semester since each individual has a dissimilar life occurrence. The host teacher and I have deep emotions about the class due to the students’ motivation towards learning. The motivation exhibits that the students are involved in class because of their willingness; it is not like some individuals who are forced to be at school. The most satisfying experience as a peer tutor is that students become more knowledgeable and confident with English to endure in such a different society, Canada. As time goes, the given tests and assignments become more challenging; however, it is commendable to see the students dealing with their work. Likewise, they are even pleased by any complicated tasks. The fulfilling incidents have an effect on me to develop better strengths as a sophisticated individual. Using English can be anxious for the students because English is their second language. Therefore, reducing stress is very important for them to enjoy learning. Fortunately, there is a student who has a great sense of humour that creates enjoyable working atmosphere. His optimism conveys everyone to diminish nervousness that is occurred in the class. For instance, we were talking about unpredicted experiences when we arrived to Canada. The student described an event that happened at the airport as they landed. His family was not familiar with an escalator. Therefore, his mother said “Toss your suit cases on that moving stairs!” Luckily, there was no one on the escalator. The story made everyone laugh and decreased headache that they had from grammar assignment.
I am grateful to support them to adapt different environment.

Summative (Primary Task)-Souna Arami

It has truly been a unique and great experience working with students in the special needs program. There are many pleasing experiences that I have encountered during my placement in their friendly and inviting classroom. The most satisfying experience, without hesitation I could say was getting the chance to interact with students that are in the GLP program and learning new skills that helped me work with each student correctly. Peer tutoring for this wonderful class made me think about different career ideas that I would most definitely enjoy and gain fundamental knowledge from.
There has been many unforgettable and humorous moments which I will always remember; in fact today while we went outside to play Frisbee, I was teamed up with the student I usually work with and I was trying to teach him how to throw a Frisbee. I was having a very difficult time because he did not want to listen and kept saying negative things about himself and the game, so as I was trying to motivate him by saying that the game was not difficult at all, I decided to show him how to throw and I totally messed up and fell on the wet grass which made him laugh and feel like it was okay to make mistakes and what is important is trying different activities even if they seem difficult . After that, he continued trying but this time he was not stressed when he miss threw the Frisbee and was more comfortable with himself and his strengths and weaknesses.Overall in GLP gym class students are very nice to each other and they try to have fun and make everyone feel included, even if some activities are more difficult for some students than others. Since this gym class is mixed, the boys try to play with girls as much as other boys so that everyone has a good time and feels that they could be as involved as anyone else in the class.

Yad's Primary Task

The most satisfying experience I have had as a peer tutor this semester would have to be that I have made connections and relationships with the students. At first, I didn't expect them to take me seriously. Why should they? It's just another authoritative figure they are told to listen to. However, as the semester continued, they realized I am just like them and I am still a student, because I learn from them as much as they learn from me. I feel great when they are happy and doing their work, and when they can joke around. When they listen to me, it makes me feel like I am being taken seriously. Overall, I am very satisfied with how the semester has turned out.

The most humourous incident that has happened in this class was mortifying, yet hilarious. I was marking their vocabulary tests as usual, except for the fact that in one section, I noticed everyone was getting the answers correct. I was very proud of the students having studied and I was impressed with the final mark. I showed it to my supervising teacher, then handed them out. Great, right? Until a student noticed my mistake. Basically, the whole class did not do as well as I expected they had, and I had given out free marks. I was so embarassed, but my supervisor and student teacher and I were laughing a lot, including the kids. This situation could have been delt with frustration and anger, but instead it was seen as a funny moment that benefitted the kids.

Primary Summative Task ; Michelle Yan

Hey everybody! I am the peer-tutor of Ms. Carrier's grade 9 dance class. I have been a part of the many great events that has occurred within the classroom during the semester. Being the peer-tutor of a dance class has given me many opportunities to grow and mature. It has taught me many different skills, such as leadership, patience and co-operation. It has also taught me to become a better role model. I have developed many great friendships with the students and as well as Ms. Carrier, we are all able to easily communicate with one another.
As a dance peer-tutor, I have found that most experiences that I've encountered has been satisfying. Although, if I had to pick one set of events, it would have to be teaching the class on y own when Ms. Carrier's away. I have chosen those events because having to teach the class on my own allows me to actually experience what it is like to be a real teacher, just without the title. It also allows me to expand my leadership skills, as well as build my confidence of being in front of big crowds.
Humour is a big part of our class, there isn't a day that we don't use humour! During our "cleaning" days, it gets pretty tough and tiring! So, to reduce stress from it, Ms. Carrier jokes around with them during the breaks in between pieces. There aren't any specific humour techniques that we use in the classroom but we all know when to joke and when to be serious. Ms. Carrier is a very fun and energetic person, therefore she doesn't like her students to stress because it may effect their performance. Her teaching skills are VERY effective! :)

Malaz Primary Task (Summative)

Hey everyone. As you all know, well you might not, but I am currently peer tutoring grade 9 academic math course which is being taught by Mrs. Holness. As a peer tutor, I have been through many interesting incidents. Some I enjoyed, while others, not so much. However, the most satisfying experience I had as a peer tutor this far would probably be when I was assigned to take about 9 students and explain to them what they did wrong on a quiz. There was a requiz that was made by me, and those 9 students had to write it the next day. I was incharge of making sure I explain to all these students everything on the quiz, and insure that every single one of them recieves a mark of 60%+. Most of the students scored over 60%, except for one student who was 5% off.

Being Mrs. Holness's peer tutor, I noticed some great teaching techniques. One of her major techniques is what I like to call the "neener neener." This technique is based on using humorous terms while explaining a lesson to maintain the students' attention. Mrs. Holness uses terms such as: Neener Neener, chicketies, ExacKALAKALy, etc. Every term has a different meaning, Neener neener is used to alert the class that whatever is now being said is important. The word "Chicketies" is used to add a sense of humour to a dry topic such as explaining slope, (e.g. Slope equals rise over run chicketies!) Exackalakaly is also another word used to add a sense of humour to a topic where students loose attention easily, (e.g. Therefore the slope is exacKALAKALy 3). There are many other terms Mrs. Holness uses to grab the attention of all the students and I think that's what makes her such a wonderful teacher!

Souna's Journal Entry

There are so many exciting students in my Peer-tutoring class to observe and it was difficult for me to try to find one specific person to view and note on their characteristics and behaviours for a week.(It is important to keep in mind that I peer tutor GLP gym class and help students with special needs ) .Ultimately I picked a student that I have been working one on one with a lot more than others. This student has major learning disabilities and needs more help than other students in the class .He, whom will be called Bob throughout this journal entry , has a difficult time understanding and following the instructions given out by the teacher. I selected him because I thought that it would be interesting to learn more about how students with special needs, interact and work with others.

Bob is very good at showing interest in different activities even if he finds the matter hard to understand. He makes sure that he asks for extra help and does not give up until he feels that he has caught up with the rest of the students. For example when everyone in the class is doing pushes and he does not know how to do them, he looks at other students first to see how they are doing it, and then asks for help so he can improve and learn the correct method. Bob has disabilities that prevent him from keeping up with everything that the teacher is instructing to the rest of the class and needs a lot of one on one help. He also sometimes has a hard time concentrating and staying on task which makes working with him quite difficult since you constantly have to fight for his attention.

I had many interactions with Bob which assisted me with getting to know his characteristics and also helped me understand the difficulties that a person with learning disabilities goes through on tasks that may be quite simple for you and I. Throughout the week I helped Bob in different areas that he needed help with ,such as ; showing him how to do pushes, teaching him the correct methods so he does not get hurt , explaining the games /drills that we encountered during the week ,talking to him about healthy daily tasks for example brushing teeth , washing hands ,etc. some goals that I would like to help this student achieve is to help him with posture during pushes and make sure he is able to do them correctly, try to keep him focused and interested during activates and last but not least make sure he always brings his change of cloths and deodorant for class.

Since i peer toutor gym i see all diffrent types of kids in my class. I could have choose anyone of them but i deside to go with one student that i have a great relationship with, lets call him Jeff. He is a great kid and has a great time everyday in gym class. He always trys his best in class but he can also be negativly effected by other students in the class. I guess the main reason i choose him was to figure out why he is so easyily infulenced by his peers.

Jeff is a skilled athelete and does very well in almost all sports. His favorite sport is basketball and is very good at it. He is very knowledgeable about the sport and is a great leader on the court. He takes direction very well from the teacher. He helps lead drills and helps other students to understand who may be struggeling with the conseps. He usually behaves well inclass but on some ocations he is influenced by two other students in the class. These two students are class clowns i guess you could say and incurage him to join in there antics. He also needs to take more of a leadership role in the class.
