Summative Assignment

Part 1:

This past semester peer tutoring has been a really great experience for me. It is a very new experience being the leader and the teacher in the classroom. I never realized how rewarding being a role model could be. I think that the most satisfying moment i had peer tutoring happened just this week, the class is playing softball and many of the kids are having trouble hitting the ball. Baseball is one of my favorite sports so i was able to give the kids a lot of useful tips on how to bat. The next time one of the students i helped went up to bat he hit the ball further then anyone had that day, and after he scored a run he thanked me for the types. It is a great feeling to see someone u have helped succeed.

Now since I peer tutor gym there is a sex education health unit. And at 14 and 15 this can be a very stressful thing thing to talk about. But humor is a great way to get over this stress. one of the best examples i can think of is when discussing condom use Mr. Grozelle got the kids to pair up and make skits about how to properly discus it with your partner. Some of the skits were very funny and the whole class laughing and feeling a lot more comfortable.

Part 2:

The person that i have formed the best relationship with is Mr. Grozelle my host teacher. I think the thing that he has had a really positive influence me because of his love for what he does. Seeing him doing what he loves everyday has really made me think about what I want to do when i am older, and if it will make me happy or not. I think the way i have effected him positively is i have shown him that leadership comes in many different forms. Leaders don't always have to be the best at the sport or be the most vocal, i think i have shown him it is how and what you say not how much you say. Also that comedy is a great way to make a connection with kids.

I choose this link because it talks about things that will show the kids how to be productive members of the classroom. It talks about very important qualities that a peer tutor should possess such. Things like being reliable, when you show up to class on time as a peer tutor you set a good example for the students in the class. It also mentions being positive, that is one of the biggest assets in being a peer tutor. If you display a negative attitude the whole class will model the same behaviour.
