In the months I have been a peer tutor, I have met many new faces and developed positive relationships with many individuals including the teacher. I peer tutored two different classes; one was the first careers class, and the other was the second careers class which switched over from civics to careers. Both classes were very different and gave me a different experience in seeing how teaching is. I found that I had more positive relationships with the first class due to the people in it. They communicated with each other more and worked together as a team. It is not to say that I did not have any positive relationships with the second class because I did with a few students, but with the first class, I can say that I had positive relationships with the whole class.
There was one student that I thought I had a great impact on, and that was Tamla Thaw. Tamla Thaw was a great student, always positive, smiling, a great contributor to the class and a very friendly guy. His ability to read, write and speak English was not very strong but he would always come to me for help when needed, and knew that I was there to help him with his difficulties. I feel that I had a great impact on him because he came to me whenever he needed help, even outside of class, with his other studies. Tamla also had an impact on me, he made me feel that I was a great help to him and the class and always thanked me and told me that “I was the best,” and informed me that I was doing a good job. He made a great impact on helping me decide on my future choices and which career path to choose because every time I helped him solve a problem or understand something, he would always be smiling and always be proud of himself; this made me feel successful and happy. To be able to see that a simple thing like that was able to make a student’s day.
I also developed a positive relationship with the teacher, Mr. Easey. He is a great teacher and gives me the chance to really experience the life as a teacher. He allows me to teach short lessons, and help with the marking, he also always asks for my opinion in things, and always has me take part in leading some of the classes. He has also had a great impact of helping me choose my career path when older, and has taught me many things not just about school but about life in general.
