Hey! My name is Geneva Forestell and I'm in grade eleven. I'm peer tutoring grade ten core french with Mme. Brun Del Re.
This is a very small class of only about 16 students, which is nice because it's very easy to identify each of their strengths as well as their weaknesses. Another advantage of the small class is that everyone knows each other and so they're all able to support one another through the more difficult assignments. The class has an overall very friendly environment, which I believe is very contructive for their learning.
In the class some of my roles are to help students with their assignments, check homework and create games as a fun way of learning. Because it is a core french class some students have difficulty with the language so it's pretty much my job to ensure they understand the instructions and to answer any questions they have. This class struggles mostly with vocabulary and initiative.
A weekly activity I would like to initiate is to have a memory game every couple weeks to improve vocabulary.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas!...

Hey Geneva! I can definitely relate with your class, we both have very small classes and I think I like it better that way! It makes it a lot easier to focus on each student's knowledge, ability and strength in different areas that are offered throughout the course. I am also in an environment where every one is familiar with eachother and I love to see them support one another, and they're not afraid to admit it when they need help. They're all so very willing. I agree on your idea about playing games to help them improve their vocabulary because different people learn differently. Therefore, some students may get better understanding throughout their lessons, and some may get better understanding through your games. So, I think it's a win-win situation! Keep it up! :)

Hi Geneva,
ReplyDeleteDo you find that the students are comfortable asking you for help? The memory game is a great idea because so much of French requires memorization. You could even do something every Friday for the first or last 10 minutes of class. Keep up the good work.

hey Gevena,
ReplyDeleteI chose you because we share such similarities in having a small class and having the advantage of identifying each students strengths as well as their weaknesses. I get the opportunity to help them one on one and the environment is also friendly, but it maybe too friendly and they at times talk too much and lose focus on the task at hand. I may also create a game in the future just for kicks. Hope you keep enjoying your class.
Cheers,
Philip
