Blog #1: Angela's Intro

Hi everyone!

My name is Angela Larose and I'm in grade 11. I am peer tutoring in grade 9 academic core french (FSF1D) with Mme. Ducharme. So far, I've pretty much been taking care of everyday housekeeping like attendance, marking or getting kids caught up when they miss class... probably not too different from everyone else! I also created an activity for the class. I made sentences in french, printed them out and cut them up. All the sentences were put in their own plastic bag, and the challenge was for the class to put them back together correctly as fast as possible. The activity brought out the kids' competitive sides and I think it was a success. I've also really enjoyed helping students one-on-one while they're working, because, as lame as it sounds, it's feels good to be able to help someone understand. Two things I would really like to create or initiate in my class are more activities like the sentence jumble and a way to keep everyone on top of their homework, because I think some of the students never do their homework, which causes them to be very lost in class, all the time! Suggestions welcome! haha.

  1. Angela,
I think that you touch on one of the main reasons that many of us go into teaching - it does feel good to help others . The game that you created for the French class sounds like it was a good opportunity for students to have some fun with thier learning. Great job!
